Evaluation of the Anti-Sickle Cell Activity of Uvaria Chamea P. Beauv. Roots Aqueous Extract

Sickle cell disease was a very common hemoglobinosis in tropical countries. Several plants were used traditional Beninese medicine to relieve sickle crises. The present work carried out test the efficiency of Uvaria chamea roots aqueous extract treatment crises.
 
 Methods: preincubated at different concentrations with blood cells from SS red before or after Emmel Test. Intra-erythrocyte oxidative stress measured by methaemoglobin assay incubation hemoglobin. In vivo, action on Hemoglobin level, Mean Corpuscular Volume, and platelet count Wistar rats.
 Results: significantly prevented formation doses 40 20 mg / ml (P <0.05) reduced normal biconcave form dose <0.05). It lowered production methemoglobin 10 ml, suggesting antioxidant activity. did not increase treated rats, indicating that stimulate erythropoiesis thrombopoiesis.
 Conclusion: inhibited dose-dependent sickling cells. intraerythrocyte but show hematopoietic could therefore be considered preventive curative management crises, against anemia.
